Program Overview
The Developmental Academy is designed for players in 4th–9th grade of all skill levels who are ready to train in a structured and challenging volleyball environment. Players are grouped by ability to ensure that beginners can learn and progress at their own pace while more experienced players are continually pushed to refine and elevate their game.
This program focuses on teaching high-level techniques through quality repetitions, giving athletes the opportunity to grow in both skill and confidence. Sessions are structured to be engaging and fun while maintaining a strong emphasis on fundamental development, advanced training concepts, and game-like situations.
The Developmental Academy serves as an important stepping stone for athletes aiming to play at higher levels. Many Houston Stars club players began in this program, and even current club athletes continue to participate to sharpen their skills and maintain their edge.
The Developmental Academy runs sessions throughout the year so if you miss the opportunity to join for a season, stay tuned as we have new opportunities opening up often.

Youth Programs Director: Alyssa McMorris
Alyssa McMorris discovered her love for volleyball at the age of 10 and has been passionate about the sport ever since. After playing for several club programs, she found her home at Houston Stars Volleyball Club, where she was coached by Kaylee Ray. Her time at Houston Stars played a pivotal role in shaping her not only as a player, but also as the coach she is today.
Alyssa attended Cy-Ranch High School before becoming a member of the first graduating class of Bridgeland High School. She continued her volleyball career at Texas A&M University, where she competed on the club volleyball team and remained involved through intramural competition while earning her bachelor's degree.
Following her playing career, Alyssa returned to Houston Stars to begin coaching, eager to give back to the program that had such a meaningful impact on her own journey. Since then, she has coached athletes of all ages and skill levels and now serves as the Youth Program Director. She is passionate about creating a positive, encouraging environment where athletes can build strong fundamentals, develop confidence, and discover a lifelong love for the game.
Alyssa believes volleyball is about much more than wins and losses. It teaches resilience, teamwork, discipline, and confidence—qualities that extend far beyond the court. Her mission is to help every athlete grow as both a player and a person while continuing the tradition of excellence that makes Houston Stars such a special place.
